Massey Ferguson

The 53m high, Massey Ferguson Tower which stood for more than six decades was purchased by Persimmon Homes in 2004 as the farm machinery brand moved its European Office Facility to Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.

Mark Dyche, Managing Director of Safety For was appointed CDM-C by Persimmon Homes to oversee the health and safety aspects of the controlled explosive demolition of the 16 storey tower block in Coventry.

Cuddy Group were the Principal Contractor and they worked to complete the process of stripping out the internal fixtures and fittings to ensure a safe and controlled collapse without any problems.

Cuddy Group demolition experts sited 100lbs of explosives in 700 drill holes, and there was only one way for the massive structure to go — and that was down!

As CDM-C we were a key part of the team, planning for the event with the Client, engaging with local residents, schools, businesses and the Local Authority.

From a health and safety perspective the project could not have gone better. There were no injuries or significant complaints from local residents. A remarkable achievement considering the potential risk involved in this type of work.

Richard Oldroyd, Persimmon Homes South Midlands Managing Director, said:

“I’d Like To Thank Cuddy Group, Mark Dyche, And The Team For All Their Help And Commitment In Making This Project A Great Success And For Making This A Truly Memorable Day For Persimmon Homes, South Midlands.”
