Jubilee 2

The Safety For team undertook the CDM Coordinator role on this impressive community leisure centre project for Newcastle Borough Council. The project was delivered on time and on budget, with no reportable injuries or enforcement actions by the HSE.

The construction of the Health and Wellbeing Centre (also referred to as Jubilee 2) was undertaken to provide an updated centre replacing two existing facilities that were coming to the end of their lifespan. This project required a lot of specialist facilities to be included in its construction.

A 25m, eight lane pool and spectator seating for 200 people is one of the main features of the centre. In addition, there is a smaller 12x10m training pool which was designed with a moveable floor.

Other striking features include the 14m climbing wall, a 4m bouldering wall, a traverse wall with over 70 climbing routes and a high level abseil platform.

There are also 2 studios which include facilities such as rubberised floor surface with in-laid marking, and a sprung wooden floor, which are separated by a sliding acoustic wall, but with this wall removed, a multipurpose performance, exhibition and conference space is created.

Further features include a steam room, sauna and aromatherapy room. The aqua sauna is accompanied by a monsoon shower, ice feature, foot spas, padded loungers and a juice bar as well as a well-lit 150m2 area for contemporary exhibitions and gallery space housing.
