Vulcan Sports Club

The project saw the construction of a multi-use sports facility and associated outdoor space at Vulcan Park Way in Newton-le-Willows. The facilities included multiple pavilions, an indoor rifle range, crown green bowling green, multiple outdoor pitches and a multi-use games area (MUGA) open to all the local community.

The facility is located on the former Vulcan foundry site, a site with significance in the local community. This is commemorated by a plaque installed as part of the build.

Safety For were appointed as Principal Designer Advisor to the Principal Contractor, Caddick and were responsible in ensuring risk mitigation was a key focus in the design of the facilities while ensuring Caddick and the rest of the Project team were complying with their duties under CDM 2015.

One of the key issues during the design phase was ensuring the structural capability of the armory was sufficient, due to the increased floor loads imposed upon it.

The project was finished in the summer of 2016, as part of a wider, mixed use development that included new houses and an Aldi supermarket.
