What is a CDM Advisor?
A CDM Advisor works closely with the Client to ensure health and safety compliance is adhered to for the duration of a project, enabling the Client to fulfil their legal duties as required by the CDM 2015 regulations. At Safety For, we like to exceed expectations, which is why we offer a selection of CDM services to create a bespoke solution for each individual project. Our services are flexible and adaptable and can be upgraded at any point throughout a project.
Our Services
As well as providing expert knowledge and support to our Client and supporting the Principal Designer, our CDM Advisors can provide CDM2015 training to the client and project team. At Safety For our CDM Advisors can design and facilitate Risk Workshops for designers, client and stakeholders to aid the design process and ensure projects are “safe by design” during the design and construction phases.
Our CDM Advisors take an active role in the project and will visit site regularly throughout the build process. Ahead of the construction process, we will also visit the proposed site to ensure that the whole team are taking into account any health and safety risks which may be present from the location and surrounding area. It is at this stage Safety For can provide advice regarding sufficiency of any existing information and/or the need for further investigations or surveys.
Prior to any appointment, Safety For can assist the Client and carry out competency checks. This is an important element which is often overlooked by the Client. Some Clients may want to use our existing CDM templates, which have been developed over the years, taking the hassle out of the process.
As well as working alongside the Client, we can also assist in the production of Principal Contractor documentation, including the construction phase plan and associated appendices such as traffic management plans. Many Principal Contractors do not understand the importance of the construction phase plan and how is should be used and updated on site, during the works. Safety For offer support in this area, so that the Principal Contractor can effectively plan, manage and monitor the construction phase of the works.
F10 Management is also an important service offered by our CDM Advisors. They will notify the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as and when appropriate, managing this responsibility for the Client for the duration of the project.

FAQ’s
What is a CDM Advisor and when do I need one?
A CDM Advisor (or CDM Consultant) is a health and safety professional who provides expert guidance and support to all duty holders on a construction project, particularly the Client, to ensure they comply with the CDM 2015 Regulations. While not a legal duty holder, an advisor is crucial for helping you meet your legal obligations and reduce risk.
What is the difference between a CDM Advisor and a Principal Designer?
A Principal Designer is a legally appointed duty holder under CDM 2015 with specific responsibilities for the pre-construction phase. A CDM Advisor is a consultant who provides expert advice and guidance to assist the Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor in fulfilling their respective duties. Safety For can act in either capacity, providing comprehensive support based on your project's needs.
How does a CDM Advisor assist the Client?
A CDM Advisor helps the Client understand and fulfil their legal duties under CDM 2015. This includes providing advice on the appointment of competent duty holders, preparing pre-construction information, and ensuring the health and safety file is compiled correctly. Our role is to simplify the process and ensure compliance without adding unnecessary complexity.
