Fire awareness & Marshal (Warden) Duties

Course:

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) defines the duty holder as the ‘responsible person’.  They are accountable for the general fire precautions in place for any non-domestic premises.  These general precautions will include a fire emergency plan and the ‘responsible person’ can appoint other people to assist in the execution of this plan.  If this is the case, they must have appropriate training to ensure they can do their task safely.

Aim:

The course is set up to provide an appointed Fire Marshal (sometimes referred to as Warden) with knowledge of the hazards and risks they may face while carrying out their duty.  The precautions and actions they must take to keep themselves out of danger in the event of a fire.

Who should Attend:

Anyone who is designated to assist evacuation of premises during a fire emergency and carry out periodic workplace inspections as part of their Fire Marshal duties and responsibilities.

Course outline:

  • Theory of fire, combustion and the fire triangle – how fires start, spread and the dangers arising from fire

  • UK law and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO)

  • Who may be placed at greatest risk during an emergency?

  • Fire evacuation procedures – communication, co-ordination and control

  • General fire precaution measures. Housekeeping, inspection and prevention

  • Measures that slow down the spread of fire

  • Fire detection systems

  • Protecting your means of escape, ensuring adequate and effective evacuation routes and assembly point

  • Fire evacuation drills. Record keeping and reporting

  • A Fire Marshal’s role: Check-Direct-Report. Legal duties and responsibilities.

  • Types of fire extinguishers, their uses and limitations

  • Practical – handling and operating different type of fire extinguisher

Duration:

4-5hours including theory, practical and confirmation of learning.

Location:

Held at a location of your choice but will require access to an outside area where we can demonstrate how to use fire extinguishers.  This course can also be conducted using either Zoom or Teams applications but will exclude the practical demonstration of fire extinguishers.

At the completion of the course delegates will be given a certificate of attendance. This course is not accredited.
