CITB have introduced a new initiative called the Employer Network simplifying the way levy paying employers can access funding for training support. Training can be undertaken in anything that supports construction employees and can be online or in person. Course:
Every employer shall make a suitable and sufficient assessment of
(a) the risks to the health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work; and
(b) the risks to the health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him of his undertaking,
for the purpose of identifying the measures he needs to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed upon him by or under the relevant statutory provisions.
As stated in Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
This piece of legislation is the ‘catch-all’ for assessment of risk. The opening line means this is an ‘absolute duty’, that is, every employer has got to do this.
Aim:
The course is designed to raise knowledge and understanding about the role Risk Assessment plays in protecting people from danger, harm or ill health when they are at work and also protecting other people who may be put at risk by an employer’s work activities.
Who should Attend:
Anyone in the workplace or responsible managing and supervising workers. Anyone considered as a ‘competent person’ and who may be asked to undertake a risk assessment.
Course Outline:
• Why we do risk assessment
• Workplace accidents and accident ratios
• Human failure, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions
• Defining Hazard and Risk and examples of what activities need assessments
• Health and Safety Law and the need for a risk assessment
• Guidance and the HSE 5-step approach
• Methods to evaluate a risk rating, prioritise action and carry out recommendations
• Principles of prevention and hierarchy of control measures
• Dynamic assessment of risk – perception and instinct, the ‘something is not right’ moment
Duration:
2-hours. Held at a location of your choice. This course can also be conducted using either Zoom or Teams applications.
At the completion of the course delegates will be given a certificate of attendance. This course is not accredited.
